Tuesday Mar 02, 2021
Tuesday Mar 02, 2021
In 2016 a new name burst onto the scene at prolific indie rap label Mello Music Group. That name was none other than The Lasso, a producer and multi-instrumentalist from Michigan. With him he brought a unique instrumental sound that felt retro and new at the same time. After a few collab albums with names such as Psypiritual, Chris Orrick, and ELUCID (as Small Bills), The Lasso returns with multiple new collaborators and a brand new sound. We were lucky enough to sit down and discuss that new album, 2121, on the Anthony and Todd Show with the man himself.

Over the last year, The Anthony and Todd Show has kept up with eclectic rapper/producer Darko the Super, our first interview guest and friend of the show. Through his music, we’ve been introduced to multiple other artists that run in his sphere and on his label, U Don’t Deserve This Beautiful Art. One of those artists is Donovan Phillips, better known as rapper/singer/producer ialive, or more recently Donovan Days. This Philly native has been working with UDDTBA and Darko for years, creating and producing music since 2004. It only made sense for us to finally sit down and get to know him better after hearing so much from him, including his newest release Donovan Days. We discuss forging his own identity in the music scene, his love affair with rap music, meeting and working with Darko, and switching up his sound and name on Donovan Days.
